Why Don’t Employers In Nigerian Adopt Hourly Pay For Jobs That Productivity Can Be Measured Hourly?

Hourly Pay Vs Monthly Salary… Approximately 60% of the US workforce is employed in hourly work. I believe it would increase productivity and benefit both parties. Na who work go chop. The lazy ones would be left with nothing at the end of the month - especially those ones in ministries that come everyday to sell crayfish and china handbags. Hourly pay can also make businesses to be more interested in exploring ways to increase the performance of the people supervising workers rather than exploring ways to increase the performance of actual workers themselves. It may not work in every sector, but it can work in many. The education sector for example. Teachers can charge per period and maximize their day. Two periods here and there, rather than slaving in only one school for 20k a term. I know some teachers of special subjects like Diction, Music and the likes, do this already. Would you like this payment method or you prefer the fixed monthly salary?

Wow! In this UAR abi na Nigeria? That is a very laudable move.

You blame them? Responsibilities too much for this Nigeria.

I have always wondered how people in civil service do it. They are owing you for 7 months and you are still coming to work. Is it that there is something going on there that we don’t know?

Most of these civil service ministries and some private sector employers, no dey fit pay monthly salary, reliably, as and when due. Na hourly dem go fit pay?

Make we reason am na, they usually have about 25 - 28 days to plan towards salaries but when the month ends na story. I worry that hourly payments may even be harder to implement, las las if you clocked in 80 hours, they will decide to only pay 40 hours with some BS story.

To answer your question, I won't mind hourly pay. I get to decide how many hours per day I want to work and work-life balance will be a reality in my control. We pay too much lip service to work-life balance in Naija and in a city like Lasgidi it should be actively enforced.
