It's not mainly against the Igbos. Everybody has conveniently forgotten how hatred against northerners has been wholly normalized everywhere, including this sub. All the "Fulani cattle herders" talk and terrorist innuendo. Labor party supporters have been particularly guilty of using thinly veiled religious and ethnic hate speech.
People always think xenophobia is fine until it's targeted against them.

As Africans, we need to accept two things:
We are just as capable of being xenophobic as people on other continents. The only reason South Africa charts so high regarding incidents is because it is a preferred destination for many migrants in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Congolese are xenophobic towards Rwandans, and Somalias complain daily about their treatment in Kenya.
Nigeria expelled millions of Ghanaians in the 80s, only allowing them to carry a bag full of their property and no more(that's where the bag "ghana must go" got its name)
2. Just because the colonialists created some borders 60 years ago doesn't mean people that have fought each other for centuries will suddenly start loving each other as fellow citizens do. It took two world wars before Germans began to see each other as German. Building a nation is usually a bloody process. The founding fathers should've federalized the country as much as possible. In terms of allowing states to make 90% of the decisions and allowing genuine Hausa/Igbo/Yoruba/Fulani mega-states. Look at Switzerland - you have French, German, and Italian origin citizens, so they know instantly that they would have to do something different. They made sure they federalized the hell out of the country. You need to find out who the president of Switzerland is because it is a weak position.
If Nigeria does not correct this, there will be civil war in the future - no way the current elite will survive once the increasing population of people under 50 wakes up and realizes there are no jobs for them.

Interesting take. How would you implement such federalism in Nigeria given the current situation

A bit of context.
Since the elections began, there has been a rise of dangerous ethnic sentiments and bigotry in various parts of the country. On Twitter, there have been attacks based on these lines, mainly towards the Igbo people residing in Lagos, with baseless rumors flying around like the ones seen above.
More so, it has been exacerbated recently because the wife of the gov candidate of the Labor party in Lagos is Igbo, and his mom is. They've even misquoted her and turned her tweets into tribal bait, which can lead to a dangerous path.
All of this just because of bleeping elections!!!??? I'm tired abeg

Going back to the thread, see what some clowns are saying:
Someone whose education was wasted
Anyhow sha, the agenda must include agenda. I don't want to hear any complaints about IELTS and co because it's evident that most Nigerians do not understand English

Apc guys have been using tribalism to divide, conquer and retain their positions. Unfortunately, it seems these tribes dislike each other enough to see the real villain here and go on to generalize

I am from the South-south, but I hate bigotry, and if I catch you insulting an Igbo man, you are an enemy to me because the same way you will insult that Igbo man and call him "IPOB " or "chinedu" as tinubu boys do means you can treat every minority tribe worse.

The tribalism from Yorubas against Igbos this election has been off the charts, and it isn’t terrific.
This is not the only banner and placard they’ve carried targeting Igbos in Lagos. Two other yellow ones are going around saying Igbo people will replace all the Yoruba Obas if GRV, who is both Yoruba and Igbo, wins.
The whole thing is so disgusting

It's weird, these two groups are the ethnic group that intermarry the most.

I don't have words to describe the type of disappointment in this. We complain about xenophobia and racism and do the same to our country's people. I cannot fathom it. What are they even doing this for? Are we not all Nigerian?

Please show us where Igbo traders have destroyed people’s farms and killed the farmers for complaining or preventing them from passing that way. Show us where Igbo people have said that Nigeria is theirs to rule. Please show us the massacres and genocides happening in the South that Southerners caused. Where do Southerners perpetrate the Owo and Benue massacres? Where are the people displaced by evil twats ransacking and pillaging their villages?
Please provide examples of unprovoked Labour Hate speech. I’m yet to see any Labour Party person say they own any state while APC, instead of touting their achievements, is busy stroking tribal sentiments. Please also provide examples of an Igbo traditional chief calling for all outsiders to be thrown in Niger if they do not vote for a particular political party.
Textbook narcissism and gaslighting.

This is a blatant lie. It is mainly against Igbos, and the Fulani cattle herders being terrorists talk is not tribalism considering just one day after the Presidential election ended, Fulani herders killed THIRTY people in Benue.
It is mainly against the Igbos

It's an interesting dynamic because northern Nigeria has some of the most xenophobic regions in the country. And their xenophobia isn't limited to just name-calling.
